It’s Nice to Have Nice Friends

Last night on the train ride home I was reading what I wrote after Kobe passed away.

When Robyn and I were deciding what to name our first child, we had a guiding light. She lost her father Kenneth, and I lost my mother Blanche, so my son’s name was either going to begin with a K or a B. As we were going through this process, my wife said “what about Kolby?” Fortunately I misheard, I thought she said Kobe and that was that. Our decision was made. A “K” and a “B”, it was perfect. My mother knew how much I loved watching him play basketball, so giving our son his name was a way to keep her memory alive.

I wasn’t trying to make myself cry for no reason. I thought about this because while we were recording The Compound and Friends, my friend Tom Lydon gave me something.

I was blown away by this. I am blown away by this. Tom’s thoughtfulness and generosity are something you don’t find every day. They say it’s better to give than it is to get, and it is, but it felt pretty special to be on the receiving end of this

Anyway, enough of the sappy stuff. Yesterday’s show with Tom and Leanna was a blast. Hope you like it.
