I did not follow the traditional path of getting into the wealth management industry. I was a jackass of a child, not taking anything seriously, least of all my education. And I paid the price for that when I entered the real world. To give you an idea of how hard I was flailing, check out this conversation that Ben and I had a couple of years ago.
My story is a great one to tell because it has a happy ending. It could have gone very differently for me, and I don’t for a minute lose sight of how lucky I am. Roll the dice of my life 100 times and I think I landed on the best possible professional outcome. I mean, I considered moving to San Antonio to be an internal wholesaler for a mutual fund company. And no offense to San Antonio, but yeah, that’s how dark it was for me.
And so now that I get to do all the things that I do, like run a media company that has the incredibly talented Jill Schlesinger on our platform, I just can’t even. My mother would kvell if she were alive to see this.
I’ve told my origin story before, but for those who haven’t heard, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Jill to go deep on my journey. I hope you enjoy it.
