If You’re Looking for a Change

In a couple of weeks, November 6th to be exact, I’m visiting the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. I will be joining twenty colleagues, three of whom are based in the city, to meet with clients, talk with prospective clients, and sit down with financial advisors who want to learn what it’s like to be an employee at Ritholtz Wealth Management.

We’ve spoken with a lot of advisors over the years. While almost all of the conversations and correspondences have been good to great, most have blended into one another at this point. But there is one experience that happened in August 2018 that I still recall like it was yesterday. I remember saying to Josh, “Holy shit. That’s the best email we’ve ever gotten from an advisor. We have to save him.”

I just reread the email that came in almost 2,000 days ago, and I have to say, I agree with myself. It was, and still is, the best advisor email we’ve ever seen. And we did save him. And we got so much in return.

Nobody, not one time, has watched our videos or read our blogs and handed over their life savings. It doesn’t work that way. We have to demonstrate competence, empathy, and most importantly, expertise. All of our advisors have these qualities, but this gentleman has gone above and beyond to deliver value to his clients. That’s why he now oversees $250 million in client assets. Our content gets us in front of people, but our advisors have to show them why we’re the right solution.

One of the most impressive qualities this guy has, and there are a lot of them, is that he has no interest in attention, both external and internal. He really just wants to do his job, kick ass for his clients, and then go home to spend time with his family. He has no interest in being profiled on this blog or anywhere else.

I’ve spoken many times about how my career began. The other day on Animal Spirits, I shared about the time that I made $256 in 2010. That’s not a joke. Well, I guess it is, but what I mean is it’s the absolute truth. To have gone from that to working with people like this, it’s beyond words. I’m proud, grateful, and excited to work with incredible advisors like him.

If you’re looking for a change, we’d love to talk with you.
